The Australian Photographic Society has an Honours system that recognises the skills, effort and achievement of APS members. As a member of the International Federation of Photographic Art (FIAP), APS also administers applications for FIAP’s honour system, FIAP Distinctions, on behalf of all Australian applicants, including those that are not APS members.

Both organisations have honours that are awarded for photographic excellence and also honours for service to photography.

APS Honours (Skill)

LAPS This Honour is intended to allow the advanced club photographer of reasonable proficiency to obtain recognition for their efforts.
Licentiate

AAPS This Honour is intended as a goal, offering a substantial challenge to the accomplished photographer. The standards required are deliberately kept high but not so high as to preclude active Australian and overseas photographers from applying.
Associate

FAPS This Honour is for a high achievement by an exhibitor established as a successful Exhibitor in International Exhibitions. There would be little value in a Fellowship bassed on anything lower than the outstanding international exhibition record reasonably attainable by our top exhibition photographers.
Fellow

MAPS
Master
This Honour is for the consistently successful international exhibitor who has built an extensive record of success in International Exhibitions. It is intended for the top photographers who continue to exhibit at the highest level after having established their standing as an international exhibitor by gaining FAPS.

GMAPS
Grand Master
This honour can only be achieved by the Exhibition system. It is intended for those photographers who have extensively exhibited their work in many parts of the world of work to international standards and have continued to present an even wider range of work.

APSEM
APS Exhibitors Medal
APSEM Honours are intended to provide a challenge for the very highest level of APS Exhibitor. These Honours are based on an outstanding record of exhibition achievement in at least 10 countries.

What is FIAP?

A camera club is a group of photographers, local to a particular area (usually a village, town or sometimes a county). Often camera clubs are part of a National Federation, which organises competitions, distinctions etc. across it’s member clubs. In Australia's case, this is APS (Australian Photographic Society).

FIAP is a federation of National Federations. It is a global/international photographic body. Like the local clubs and national federations, it hosts competitions and offers distinctions, but unlike the local clubs and national federations, entrants are now competing and being measured against photographers from across the world. FIAP stands for Federation Internationale de l’Arte Photographique.

Noel Clark EFIAP FAPS PPSA PSQA was a passionate photographer, a successful International exhibitor and respected judge.
He was generous with his time to help others and a strong leader within the club throughout the years. He was a member of the Redlands Camera club from February 2008 until November 2019, when he passed away suddenly from a heart attack.
Noel was known for his sense of humour, cheeky grin and working tirelessly to help members flourish in their photography. He gained great satisfaction in seeing club members progress & succeed and rejoicing when they did.

The Noel Clark Excellence Award recognises a member who has actively pursued their passion in photography to improve, progress and succeed.

This award may also be used to recognise a member who has contributed to others through club activities.

Di Arthur had a love and passion for photography in her younger years, then came children and family and other commitments. Later in life Di's passion was rekindled when she joined the Redlands Camera club, she loved photography and had a great passion
at a later age in life to improve and grow in it. Di passed away suddenly, but is dearly remembered by all of the many friends within the club for her photography passion, laughter and zest for life.
The woman receiving the Di Arthur award tonight exemplifies a woman with an active passion for photography, improvement and growth to achieve their best.

Barrie was an original member of the club, a born photographer and successful exhibitor.
He was also a talented sail maker and well known in yachting circles. During his membership of the club, he helped those who were new to photography as well as more experienced members who sought his help.

He died from a heart attack at an early age and this trophy commemorated his memory and club contributions. The taller sections of the trophy represent the sails and the camera, his photography.
The award was established to recognise the contribution of one member during the year to club activities. It has also been used to recognise the commitment and advancement of skills by members, particularly those who are newer members of the club
